Welcome to Shadow Oak Plantation

Unique to southwest Georgia’s quail hunting facilities, Shadow Oak’s handsome and comfortable main Lodge and “Bunkhouse” accommodate smaller parties — sleeping a maximum of 14 people — thus offering an uncommon intimacy and privacy to your stay with us. We offer a variety of hunting options tailored to guests who are eager for a sun-up to sun-down full day of excitement, that is had on over 3,000 acres of the diverse terrain of piney woods, crop fields and thickets that make up our carefully managed quail habitat, to those who prefer a laid back half day upland hunt that allows for kicking back, relaxing, sippin’ sweet tea and “shootin’ the bull”. Our “unlimited bird” quail hunts allow shooters to relax without counting birds and considering extra fees for above limit birds shot. For those seeking another great windshooting challenge, we offer half day Quail Hunt/Pheasant Shoots. Whatever you desire, Shadow Oak Plantation has an option that fits.

A Southern Tradition

As the early morning sun spills onto the front porch and through the windows of the Lodge, the day at Shadow Oak begins with fresh coffee and a hearty Southern country breakfast at 8:00. You are then met by our experienced guide(s) in a fully-equipment custom-designed quail hunting rig or “Bird Buggy” (typically 4 shooters per rig, maximum 2 on the ground shooting) to take you afield on your morning quail hunt with pointing and retrieving dogs eager to be let out of their on-board kennels to search for our abundant fast-flying birds. In no time, your small group of hunting partners will be immersed in the excitement of watching Pointers or English Setters scour our prime quail habitat till one suddenly locks up on point while the bracemate, if nearby, honors the point. Safety precautions met, shooters ready, flushers are sent in and the real action begins when a covey takes to the air in a whir of wings! Shot birds are brought back to hand by our retrievers while the ever keen pointing dogs are released to locate singles or your next covey. Our diversity of landscape from field edges for a more open hunt to areas of typical south Georgia blocked tall pine woods provides many different shooting opportunities. At noon, a delicious lunch prepared by our cook is served back at the lodge followed by a short relaxing break until the afternoon hunt resumes your pursuit of the prince of game birds!
